PRIVACY

Clear skies. Clear data practices.

EFFECTIVE JULY 20, 2026

This policy explains how Astrojoe Planner, our mobile planning app, and Astrojoe Studio, our browser-based FITS processor, handle information. You can use the core planning and processing experience without creating an account.

Your raw FITS image data is processed locally in your browser by Astrojoe Studio. Astrojoe does not upload or store the raw FITS pixels.

Information we handle

Location and observing conditions

Astrojoe Planner asks for foreground location permission only after you choose to use your current location. Your coordinates are used to calculate target position, visibility, observing direction, estimated light pollution, and tonight’s forecast. You can instead keep using a saved or demo location.

When live weather is enabled, latitude and longitude are sent to Open-Meteo to return a forecast. Open-Meteo’s handling of requests is governed by its own privacy practices. Astrojoe does not use location for advertising or tracking.

Account and synced session data

If you create or sign in to an Astrojoe account, Supabase provides authentication and database services. We handle your email address for sign-in. Observing sessions you choose to sync may include the target, observing location and coordinates, time window, equipment snapshot, capture settings, weather snapshot, notes, recommended direction, and processing status. Records are protected by owner-scoped access controls.

If you stay in guest mode, onboarding choices, saved targets and locations, equipment, preferences, and observing sessions remain in local app storage on your device.

Astrojoe Studio processing records

FITS pixel data stays on your device and is processed locally in the browser. When you are signed in and process a session sent from Astrojoe Planner, Astrojoe Studio may sync the processing recipe, completion status, export format, a sanitized source filename, and a limited set of sanitized FITS header values. It does not sync the raw FITS image.

Device features

How we use and share information

We use information only to provide authentication, planning, forecasting, session sync, calendar and reminder actions, and the Planner-to-Studio workflow. We do not sell personal information, run third-party advertising, or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Service providers receive only the information needed to perform their role: Supabase for optional account and session sync, Open-Meteo for location-based forecasts, and Vercel for hosting Astrojoe’s website. Device calendar, notification, and sensor data are handled through Apple, Google, and device operating-system services.

Retention, security, and your choices

Local information remains until you remove the app, clear its storage, or replace the saved data. Synced account and session information remains while your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. We use encrypted network connections and access controls, but no online system can guarantee absolute security.

You can deny location, calendar, or notification permission and continue with reduced functionality. You may request access, correction, export, or deletion of your account and synced information through our support and account deletion page. We may need to verify that the request belongs to you.

Children, changes, and contact

Astrojoe is a general-audience astronomy tool and is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy as features or providers change. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
